It’s been over a month since quarantine started, and I know we’re all bored out of our minds. In order to provide entertainment to you lovely people, I’ve compiled my list of movies that you should watch during quarantine. Keep in mind, I am more a movie type of person, and I only like a handful of tv shows. So if you want some tv show recommendations, go ask someone else.
21 and 22 Jump Street

Okay, hear me out. 21 and 22 Jump Street are two of my favourite comedies of all time. If you need a funny distraction from all of the chaos going on in the world, WATCH THESE MOVIES. Even if you’ve seen them already, WATCH THEM AGAIN! Jonah Hill absolutely kills it in this movie, with his perfect comedic timing and his reactions. Channing Tatum, although not the strongest actor in the industry, is so much better in comedic movies than romantic movies. Both of them together are pure gold. In 21 Jump Street, Dave Franco and Brie Larson are also in the movie, and Dave Franco’s brief role is also memorable. Although both movies are hilarious, the first one tops the second.

The Godfather

The first time I watched The Godfather, I was frozen from amazement. If you love old vintage vibes, this movie is for you. Everything about this family drama is magnificent. The characters, family dynamic, cinematography and the background score are perfect. Every single performance in the movie is excellent. The HIGHLIGHT of this movie is Marlon Brando’s performance. Plus young Al Pacino is a total babe. This is every movie lover’s treat, and it will be the best 2 hours and 30 minutes of your life. This movie is perfect to watch during quarantine, because you become invested in the Corleone family, and you root for Michael, even when you know he’s not completely in the right.

How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days

Every good movie list needs a solid rom-com. This cute and quirky film starring Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey is one of my favourites. Unlike other cheesy rom-coms, this one hits all of the right emotional spots. It makes you laugh, makes you emotional, and makes you wanna have a boyfriend. Matthew McConaughey is the absolute cutest in this movie, and it’s the perfect light-hearted movie for anyone.

Parasite

If you haven’t seen this movie yet, what are you doing? It won multiple Oscars, including the biggest award of the night, Best Picture. This movie perfectly blends together genres to create a beautiful masterpiece. Every performance is so strong, and the storyline is even stronger. There is not one minute where you’re not on the edge of your seat. The way the storyline takes a dramatic turn, while making perfect sense at the same time is nothing short of incredible. This movie packs in dark themes, humour and a strong social message all in one. If you’re going to watch any movie from this list, it should be this one.

Call Me By Your Name

So let’s say you don’t wanna laugh, you don’t wanna be surprised nor do you wanna be scared. Instead, you want to cry. Call Me By Your Name is that movie. Starring my favourite actor ever, Timothee Chalamet in his breakout role, alongside Armie Hammer, who’s also very talented. Similar to the vintage vibes from The Godfather, this movie is every vintage aesthetic lover’s dream. Set in the summer of 1983, somewhere in Northern Italy, this film is simple and beautiful. The love story between the two leads is so pure and infectious. The strong performances from Chalamet and Hammer tie this entire work of art together, and I highly recommend it.

The Interview

I watched this movie a couple of weeks ago, and at first, I didn’t know how I felt about it. I like some comedic movies, but they weren’t always my thing. I’ve started to grow more appreciation for comedic movies, specifically for The Interview. This movie starring James Franco and Seth Rogen has one of the craziest and dumbest concepts ever, but somehow it still works. A famous tv show host and his producer set out on a mission to interview the president of North Korea, but are tasked to execute him by the C.I.A. It’s so whack, yet funny at the same time. Both James and Seth deliver good performances, with excellent comedic timing. I am fully aware that this movie is not anywhere near being great. When I think about this movie with a film perspective, it sucks. But when I think about it from the perspective of someone who’s bored at home and needs a distraction, it's alright. This movie isn’t great, nor is it a correct depiction of North Korea, but at the end of the day, it’ll give you a good laugh. Which is what we all need.
